Thank you for using KWO Messenger ("the App"). This Privacy Policy is designed to help you understand how your personal information is collected, used, and shared when you use the App.

Information Collection and Use

The App does not collect, store, or share any personal information unless explicitly provided by the user for the purpose of communication. The App relies on the Kurswahl Online Service ("the Service") purchased and managed by your educational institution for data exchange.

Communication

The App requires access to the Kurswahl Online server for the purpose of sending and receiving messages, managing contacts, and other messenger-related activities.

Images

The App collects and stores user’s images and shares them with the Service and all intended recipients to facilitate instant messaging services.

Media files

The App collects and stores user’s media files (such as voice recordings, videos and documents) and shares them with the Service and all intended recipients to faciliate instant messaging services.

Profile pictures

The App collects and shares the user’s profile picture publicly with any teacher or student on the same educational institution to facilitate instant messaging services.

Firebase Push Messages

The App uses Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) to deliver push notifications for incoming messages. The Firebase Cloud Messaging service is provided by Google and is subject to Google's Privacy Policy. The App does not store or process FCM data on its servers.

Data Security

The App takes the security of your data seriously. The communication with the Service is encrypted, and the App does not store or process messages on external servers. The App's access to Firebase Cloud Messaging is limited to the delivery of push notifications and does not involve the storage or processing of sensitive information.

Permissions

The App requests specific permissions to function properly. These permissions include network access for communication with the Service and push notifications, as well as device storage access for media sharing if applicable. The App does not misuse these permissions and only uses them for the intended purpose of providing the communication service.

Data Handling Procedures

We comprehensively disclose how user data is accessed, collected, used, and shared:

• Types of Data: The App accesses and processes data related to communication, including messages and contact information provided by the user.
• Parties with Access: The App interacts with the Service for data exchange. Firebase Cloud Messaging is used for push notifications, and relevant data is processed by Google as per their Privacy Policy.
• Secure Data Handling: Communication with the Service is encrypted to ensure the secure exchange of information. The App follows secure data handling procedures to protect user data during transmission.
• Media Sharing: Images, voice recordings, and other media shared by the user will be transmitted to the intended recipient(s) via the Service. The Service will store these files for up to 2 month.

The Service's Data Retention and Deletion Policy

The Service stores messages and media files for up to 2 month. All other data will be deleted once your educational institution deletes your account. If the educational institution does not renew our Kurswahl Online service, all data of the educational institution, including your data, will be deleted after 1.5 years.
